Custom orders now open...

On Friday I was asked by a lovely customer if i could make some skirts for her daughter, because I don't have too much on at the moment I was happy to accept. Her brief was 3 skirts, sz 4, fairy colours (pinks, yellow, orange, purple), likes flowers and butterflies, no blue, green or red, and whatever took my fancy!I couldn't wait to get cracking on this one and really delved into my vintage fabric stash. I enjoyed this project to much that I am opening up orders to everyone on the following conditions:
1. Will limit the orders taken to 10 skirts in total (so first come first served)
2. Expect to wait up to 2-4 weeks (again first come first served on this one)
3. Give me a few guidelines, what you like/dislike etc...colours, brights/pastels, florals, retro, ruffles, pompoms? you tell me.
4. I have ultimate creative control, I'll decide on style, fabric, trims etc...and will meet your brief as well as i can. You'll just have to trust me on this one.
5. You must love surprises - Control freaks need not apply. Please don't ask me to make a skirt to match a specific garment/outfit.
6. Some things you can be sure of - Elastic waist, mainly vintage fabric in great/mint condition, 100% cotton fabric, prints (no allover block colours), no denim, very pretty...
7. The following are the standard measurements in cm I'll use.
If you require a skirt with different measurements all you need to do is send the waist and length you require and I'll make it to fit.
sz 2- waist 53, length 30
sz 3- waist 53, length 33
sz 4- waist 54, length 35
sz 5- waist 55, length 37
sz 6- waist 55, length 40
I will happily make up to a size 10 but please supply measurements for those sizes not listed above.
8. Skirts will be $45 each regardless of how simple or embellished they end up being.
9. You can order online or through the store, pre-payment is required.
10. International customers welcomed, please order online.
Now that's the business part out of the way...Tell me what you think.
My favorite is the orange petal skirt below, I drafted the pattern on the fly and think it's really super! It can be worn any way you fancy, even inside out...

Can't wait to start sewing...

The story so far...

This will be a long winded post with lots of randomness, so grab a cup of tea and a comfy seat...
First things first, I'll be at Mathilda's market on Sunday, looks like being a really busy event with some fantastic stallholders so pop in for a visit if you are free. Best to use baby carriers if possible, I predict mega Pram-Jams.

So I've been meaning to post more but my adorable Emma is 6.5 months now and has moved onto her next, very active stage of development. She is really like a little person now with her own distinct personality. Now that she is on solid food, I'm really struggling to fit everything in to my day. She is a bit picky and I spend most of her nap time wiping down floors, walls etc...

Here she is doing a little modeling for me, and I've just noticed she has sweet potato stuck to her forehead!
I've also been busy hand stitching a rug for her bedroom. It's finally finished, and I'm very pleased at how it turned out. I backed it with this so it wouldn't slip.
Now I'm moving onto curtains, have changed my mind a million times over these but I think I finally know what i want now, will keep you posted.

New stock is arriving daily at the store, I'm trying to post it online but haven't had much success yet. These are my favorites, new french colouring books...

Oh before i forget - some of you may know Estelle, who worked in the store before going on maternity leave, she has had a little boy today named Frederick Herbert. Both mum and baby are well. Congratulations Estelle and Andrew, can't wait to meet little Freddie!
Ooh, storm's coming, hope it rains and cools us all down a bit...
Have a great weekend, Cintia

Accidental Collections...

Is it just me or does anyone else have accidental collections? I've been tidying up the place, trying to find spots for everything and have realised that I have unintentionally started accumulating bits and pieces (mainly from op shops and flea markets) that started off as a single and now have at least 3 of! Can't walk past and orange enamel teapot, only paid a few dollars for the 1st one, will probably pay quite a bit for subsequent ones. Can justify paying more now that I collect them!
Apart from all of my fabrics and habby (which is getting to quite a ridiculous level now) I probably have about 5 things that I really look for when out and about. The one that really took me by surprise was the abacuses. I bought most of them recently for Fleamarket finds and couldn't bear to part with them.
The hangers I'm fascinated with and have found ones and twos in op-shops all around the place. Can anyone tell me more about them? They have woven covers on them made of plastic. I'm really smitten and have yet to find the perfect way to display them, they are too pretty to be hidden by clothes.
Tell me about your accidental collections, if you have a blog do a post with a link in the comments, I'd love to know...

Banter and Frolic...

Tired of Ben 10 or Dora birthday parties? Looking for something a little more classic without spending a fortune? Well this exact situation inspired 2 mums to come up with this brilliant party kit concept.
The kits have been designed to encourage children’s imagination & free play, regardless of arranged party games, which are also included for those who like a more structured event. Let’s face it we all love our own memories of childhood parties and play and want that for our own children. Banter & Frolic party kits are just the “dressed-up” version of the traditional backyard party, easy and accessible for modern family life.
Regardless of the theme, children will wait in anticipation for their invitation, be dazzled by enchanting decorations, find inspired party accessories, look in wonder at beautiful table decorations and giggle with glee as they skip home with a lasting memory only possible with a Banter & Frolic party kit. What’s more mum will be treated by finding all the answers in one magic box.
Banter & Frolic party kits are a treasure-trove overflowing with our unique concepts, hours of creative planning and tried and tested instruction proven to make your party a complete success.

So far we're the only Melbourne stockist, so take advantage of this lovely weather and have a beautiful party in your own backyard
I know a big boy who would love his own construction party.

The Rusty Duck...

Emma and I had a lovely day out on Friday, We went to visit my good friend Toni (pictured here with Emma) who has just opened a brilliant little place in Moonee Ponds called 'The Rusty Duck Cafe & Larder'. The 'larder' bit of the name was my idea, because this isn't just a place you can get delicious food, coffee and homemade cakes...no, you can take home Toni's wonderful home made treats as well. She even makes the chorizo sausages for the breakfast dishes.
So if you're in the Moonee Ponds area, I'd recommend a visit, and if you mention My Poppet you'll get a free biscotti with your coffee, try the pistachio and lemon...yum!
