Morning tea...

I often get a little bit peckish at around 10.30am...longingly gazing at Anne's knitted lamingtons wishing they were real, I contemplate walking down the street for some sweet treats before deciding that it's too much effort and that my hips could do without all that yummy, yummy coconut...mmm...
Good job Anne, inventor of the 1st 100% fat free diet Lamington!
And here are the pictures of the 'ruffle bum' bloomers that I made this weekend - as promised.
I think they look super cute, I'll be making more in different vintage fabrics as these sell through.

Also, before I forget, My Poppet will be closed this Saturday Grand Final Day, then back to normal as of next week.

Stuck!

Sam from Little Chipipi popped in today to drop off her cute new range of wall stickers, I have already used some to decorate the shop.
The great thing about them is that they are re-positionable up to 100 times (apparently), I'm not that bored as to test it out!
They look like great fun...

Productive weekend...

I had this romantic idea when I opened My Poppet that I was going to have so much spare time to 'create', well my one spare day in 2 months had finally arrived this Sunday past and luckily for me, i was in a creative and productive mood.

Dove into the huge vintage fabric stash that has been stock piling for such an occasion and made my 1st dress ever! I love how it turned out, very nautical indeed! I have named it 'In the navy', because that's what designers do, name their pieces with whimsy.
I think it is set off quite nicely by a couple of Miss Emma's 'Lovely Button' brooches.
There are 5 dresses available in sizes 1-2 and 2-3 although the sizing is very flexible due to the elastic. Can also be worn as a long skirt for older girls.

I may make a big one for myself this summer.
Also made some super cute baby ruffle bum bloomers, will post pictures another day (give you something to look forward to!)

Colours were so cheery thought it would make a great window...
I love these old fashioned tin spinning tops, they whistle when they spin.

I was also lucky enough to meet Kate from Two Little Banshees this weekend, she came all the way from WA to visit My Poppet, well maybe not just My Poppet, but it was pretty special and so exciting to meet Kate whose beautiful softies i have been admiring for a while now. Watch this space...we may have some little softie visitors from WA soon.

BLOG SALE...what fun!

The store is choc-o-block full of lots of great new products - so much so that I have run out of coat hangers...so I have decided to offer to anyone that mentions the blog 20% OFF long sleeve t-shirts until the end of the month (or until sold out). All you need to do to pick up a bargain is mention the blog, simple.

This may be just the thing to get all of you lurkers out there to come in and say HI!

Now check out the fun new bits and pieces in-store now...
I was so excited when the courier arrived with my Dobbin and Drum order, i am so pleased to be able to support a great Australian company who is committed to producing well made toys in Australia.
This Tee Pee is brilliant and it even has a little door bell to announce visitors.
I also love these 'Mellow Sounding Drums' also by Dobbin and Drum, they're partly made from recycled materials, very eco friendly!
And keeping with the Wild West theme, i couldn't resist these retro inspired cowboy t-shirts by Monstar, a Geelong based label that still manufactures in Victoria. Well done!
And something from Monstar for girls who 'don't do pink' but still like to have fun...
Monstar is run by Fiona Roy, who takes a very hands on approach to her designs. She personally sews on every button and hand screen prints all her t-shirts, including the fabric used in the lovely skirt above. Made with love, absolutely!

Seeing red...

Having a play with Flickr toys...some lovely red bits and pieces at My Poppet.
Also a rather nice surprise visit today from Emma aka lovelybutton , always fun to meet a fellow blogger and crafty gal. Emma was kind enough to leave some beautiful 'utter puffery' brooches, hair clips and hair ties for me to sell at the shop. Thanks Emma!

These are my favorite ones below...

Bonnie Bonnet...

Rainy day in Melbourne today, but with Summer rapidly approaching I asked the other half of Cinti does Vintage (my mum) to come up with a bonnet design that was not only practical, but super cute!
Well, what can I say...brilliant job mum!

The bonnets are reversible and will be available in a wide range of vintage fabrics. Sized to suit 18mo-3yo girls. This one is lined with this cute vintage print of girls wearing bonnets, very appropriate.

And now to some serious business!
I have been tagged by the lovely and cheeky
Brooke, or was it your idea Moca? I don't normally go for this chain mail sort of business, but since i am new to blogging I'd thought I'd get into the spirit of things...First the rules:

A. Each player lists 8 facts/habits about themselves.
B. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning before those facts/habits are listed.
C. At the end of the post, the player then tags 8 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog....

So here are some of the most obscure facts about myself I could think of (without freaking too many of you out...)

1. I have been to 32 different countries (33 if you count Scotland) and i don't count airport stopovers. As you have probably already worked out, I love to travel!
2. I have a SCUBA diving licence, but haven't been diving for many years...

3. I don't own an i-pod and have never downloaded music from the Internet (wouldn't know where to start!)

4. I brush my teeth in the shower, time saving? Yes. Water saving? Probably not...must stop doing that!

5. I love taking naps...but who doesn't?

6. I have jumped out of a plane at 14,000 feet - conveniently for me attached to a parachute!

7. A movie that makes me cry every time - Cinema Paradiso

8. A movie that makes me laugh every time - The Blues Brothers

Now I have to tag 8 other bloggers, looks like you lovely girls that left comments on my previous posts are getting tagged...
and a couple of random tags just for fun
Have fun playing tag ladies...

Blog surfing...

Have been blog surfing this morning and have discovered an inspiring idea for all you fabricoholics out there (you know who you are). Thanks to Wren handmade for sharing this easy way of displaying some faves from the fabric stash until project inspiration takes hold (which in my case rarely happens!)

Frequently asked question...

I have been asked by many customers, and even people walking down the street "What is the name of that paint colour on your walls?" And i usually can't remember, so for the record...

A: Dulux Candle Bark (full strength)

(photos wash it out a little -somewhat warmer in real life)

Yesterday i was mildly amused by the Hovercraft (yes you read correctly - Hovercraft) that was parked across the street from the shop...not something you see every day. Obviously home made as one doesn't see many Hover-dealerships or meet Second-hand Hovercraft Salesmen.
Love the BMX bike handlebars as a steering wheel...wonder where he was going?

Ripple update...

My Ripple Blanket project is now finished and will be for sale at the shop. It is a bassinet/pram size partly because I find bigger blankets a little impractical when bub is just little, and partly because i didn't have any more wool! Now onto a new project...I'm open to suggestions.

Baby Chibi Doll Delilah seems to think it's super "I love it because it matches my outfit" she told me during a very revealing interview. She also revealed that her best friend is her kitten named Milo, and her favorite craft is Ikebana flower arranging (quite a talented gal).

I have also been busy this weekend making some lovely cushions from vintage fabrics and trims. I love this ducky design fabric - it's quite old, probably from the late 50's or early 60's. I bought it from a lovely lady that was clearing out her garage at a trash and treasure market, truly a great find.

...and finally Kim from eggheads dropped in yesterday to deliver my order of eggheads t-shirts and body suits. I absolutely love her designs - and all her products are Australian made, which is really important to me.
Kim will be coming on on Saturday to do a window display for her new Aloha range, I will post photos next week.
